Deck repair with integrated seating
This aging deck had a damaged surface and rotten unstable railing. I replaced the old decking with durable pressure treated lumber, and enhanced the new railing with with integrated seating and brackets for overhead lighting. I transformed the lower section into an enclosed storage area with large access gates and ample room for garden equipment.

It's always a good idea to purchase some extra materials for a large project. Once the deck repair was completed, I used the overage to create an outdoor table in the aesthetic of the structure.

The under-deck storage area provides a large space to keep outdoor equipment and gardening supplies accessible but out of view.

The original decking was severely weathered and had a dangerously decayed railing.

Attention to detail matters! After removing the old decking and cleaning the frame, I applied joist tape to the tops of all the beams. This unseen step provides critical protection against moisture and rot, and can significantly extend the life of an outdoor structure.

The repaired deck adds two integrated bench seats (6' and 8' in length) and a connecting end table. These features incorporate the design language of the decking and railing, flowing seamlessly into the surrounding structure.

After discussing the design requirements, I drew this concept sketch for the repaired deck. I used my CAD experience (computer assisted design) to make technical drawings for a smooth and accurate rebuild.
